Uncommon Medicinal herbs

 Uncommon Medicinal herbs:

Uncommon medicinal herbs are the herbs that have some medicinal values in the past and in use today but are not common. These herbs contains such chemical compounds that allows them to use to cure various health conditions.

Examples of these uncommon Medicinal herbs are gotu kola,Ashwaganda, Reishi Mushroom and mugwort.

Gotu kola:

Centella asiatica

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) is an herb in the parsley family. It has a long history of use in the traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine systems.

Gotu kola contains certain chemicals that seem to decrease swelling and blood pressure. It also seems to increase collagen production, which might be helpful for wound healing.People use gotu kola for burns and poor circulation that can lead to varicose veins. It is also used for scars, stretch marks, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of these uses.

Burns. Applying gotu kola to second- degree burns seems to decrease the time that it takes for burns to heal.

Poor circulation that can lead to varicose veins and other conditions (venous insufficiency). Taking gotu kola or a specific extract of gotu kola (Centellase) by mouth for 4-8 weeks seems to improve blood circulation and reduce swelling in people with poor blood circulation in the legs.

Mugwort:

Artemisia vulgaris

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) is a plant native to Europe, Asia, and Africa. The parts that grow above the ground and the root are used to make medicine.

Chemicals in mugwort might have anti- inflammatory effects. It also contains a chemical called thujone, which might stimulate the uterus.

People use mugwort for anxiety, irregular periods, colic, insomnia, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Don't confuse mugwort with plants with similar common names, including Artemisia herba-alba, tarragon, wormseed, and wormwood. These are not the same.

Ashwaganda:

Withania somnifera

For hundreds of years, people have used the roots and orange-red fruit of ashwagandha for medicinal purposes.

Practitioners use this herb as a general tonic to boost energy and reduce stress and anxiety. Some also claim that the herb may be beneficial for certain cancers, Alzheimer's disease, and anxiety. However, more research is necessary to confirm the potential health benefits of this herb.

In Ayurvedic medicine, ashwagandha is considered a Rasayana. This means that it helps maintain youth, both mentally and physically.Thats why athlete use it in their diet.

There is some evidence to suggest that the herb can have neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects. Inflammation underpins many health conditions, and reducing inflammation can protect the body against a variety of conditions.

For example, proponents may use ashwagandha to help treat the following:

• stress

• anxiety

• fatigue

• pain

• skin conditions

• diabetes

• arthritis

• epilepsy

Different treatments make use of different parts of the plant, including the leaves, seeds, and fruit. However, at present, there is limited evidence supporting its potential benefits in humans.Ashwagandha may have a calming effect on anxiety symptoms. In a 2019 study, researchers found that taking a daily dose of 240 milligrams (mg) of ashwagandha significantly reduced people's stress levels when compared with a placebo. This included reduced levels of cortisol, which is a stress hormone.

Heart health

Some people may use ashwagandha to boost their heart health, including:

• lowering high blood pressure

• lowering high cholesterol

• easing chest pain

• preventing heart disease

Research shows that it have some cardiovascular properties.

Reishi Mushroom

Ganoderma lucidum

Reishi mushrooms, scientifically known as Ganoderma lucidum, have a history that spans centuries and continents. Revered in traditional Chinese medicine as the "mushroom of immortality," these fungi are renowned for their potential health benefits. Reishi mushrooms belong to the polypore family, characterized by their unique growth on trees and logs. They have a distinct appearance with a reddish-brown cap and a glossy surface.

Rich in bioactive compounds like antioxidants and fiber-rich beta- glucan, reishi mushrooms may help enhance the body's immune response by stimulating white blood cell production. In research it is found that reishi mushrooms may support production of immune cells, like B and T cells, that play a crucial role in strengthening your body's defense mechanisms to fend off infections and illnesses.

Anti-Cancer Properties

The Molecules study also found that reishi mushrooms contain compounds called triterpenes and polysaccharides that may have anti- cancer and anti-tumor-development properties. While reishi mushrooms aren't a substitute for medical
treatment. Reishi mushrooms offer a range of potential health benefits.

Consuming them regularly may help support the immune system, reduce inflammation, promote relaxation, improve sleep and manage stress and anxiety.

Additionally, reishi mushrooms may promote heart health and offer antioxidant properties.

Modern research has explored its role in supporting immune function, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being. While it's not a mainstream pharmaceutical product, it's frequently found in health supplements and herbal remedies.

All these uncommon medicinal herbs were use in past and now a days these are part of few health supplements and herbal remedies but not used as main supplement.
Although these herbs have medicinal value and provide health benefits but excessive use lead to serious health conditions which might be harmful.
