In the moon soon season plants required some extra care due to excessive rain fall, high humidity and lower light available for plants growth. Here are the few tips for better growth and management. And to protect plants from fungus and pest attack. 

Avoid over watering:

As the rainy season brings with it maximum pouring days and less sunlight we need to check the amount of water our plant is receiving. Due to less sunlight and more rainfall, the soil will always be wet during the rainy season. Don't add extra water, as it can lead to the decaying of plants.

Avoid direct rain fall:

Although rainwater is considered good for most plants, however, direct rainfall tends to cause soil erosion and can remove the topsoil of the plant. It is advisable to put and sheet or any other cover over your plants to protect the fertile soil and not damage them. 

Fertilizer:

Use natural fertilizers during monsoon. Cow dung, home compost, or vermicompost are the best manure for plants. During the rainy season, the pores in the plants open up; therefore, spraying the fertilizer helps the plants to absorb them.

Use fungicides:

Fungus attacks are common during monsoon. To avoid these, use fungicide once every 10-15 days.Neem oil is one of the most effective organic fungicides available. Spray it over the leaves.

 Ensure sunlight:

It is hard to get sunlight during the rainy season. At least twice or thrice a week, move the plants - especially succulents and cacti to sunnier spots. Check the leaves and stems of the plant every day for decaying.

Physical support:

Provide physical support to your plants - Many plants are vulnerable to strong wind so make sure it is not damaging your plants. If you have some young slow growing trees or shrubs planted in a garden, provide physical support to them.

Prevent soil erosion:

 Rainwater may cause soil erosion exposing roots which hamper the growth of plants. Create a barrier around plants so that soil would not erode but remember this barrier should not create water logging condition.

Clean the underside:

During the rain, plants will receive more water than required. Thus, it is important that excess water is drained from the pot. Check the drainage holes and ensure they are not blocked. The water might not be easily drained if the soil is too sick, and you might have to consider repotting.

Fill the pot completely:

While potting, add two parts of soil and one part of cow dung filling the whole pot. This will prevent water from clogging on the top. If the pot is partly filled, make sure the drainage is open to let extra water out.

Shift the pots occasionally:

To avoid excess water from collecting on the ground or in the pots, shift your pots around occasionally. Also remember to loosen the soil frequently.

Extra tips from the gardeners:

• At an interval of 15 days, mix one teaspoon of bone meal, neemkhali, and cow dung, and add the mix to the pot.

• Keep a check on the drainage holes in your pot, which can close or get clogged due to excess water. As a result, the soil in these holes can harden, which can lead to the rotting of the roots.

• Give support to the plant during strong winds or a storm. Otherwise, the stem can break easily.

• Try growing new plants and replanting existing ones during this season.
